HAL - INTRODUCTION

Hal is a "Halmatic 880", 8.8 metre (29 foot) motor-sailer, built in 1974 by the renowned yacht-builder Camper & Nicholson. Being amongst the first small boats built with a glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) hull, she was made rather stronger than was probably necessary and as a result has a reputation as a very robust and stable craft.

She was designed to offer a good (but not sporty) sailing experience, but also with the motor power to punch against strong estuarial currents. For this reason she has a torquey Perkins 4108 diesel inboard engine, offering plenty of 'grunt' (it is in fact a 45hp marinised Perkins London black taxi engine). It will push the boat along at 6+ knots, so no greyhound, but has plenty of power and is very understressed and longlasting. The engine runs perfectly and has been meticulously maintained.

From the pictures you will see that on the inside too Hal has been beautifully renovated and restored. She is insulated and, with electric heating when on her berth, is a cosy floating caravan-on-the-sea. Unusually for a boat this size she has a raised coachroof, which means that there is six foot-plus standing room in the saloon.

There is a front cabin, with a v-shaped double berth, plus a separate "heads" (cloakroom) with a sea-toilet and basin with electrically pumped water.

Within the saloon there is a galley with oven, hob and a sink and a raised dining area, which also converts to a double bed. There is an additional single berth within the saloon, giving a potential full sleeping capacity of five.

Currently moored in Brighton Marina, she would make a good live-aboard or a great seaside weekend retreat, but with the added benefit of being able to go out sailing whenever you want.

If you choose to keep her in Brighton, the mooring fee for Hal on any available berth within the marina is £3259.20 per annum - for which you get 24/7 access to the open sea, plus laundrette, showers, toilets, free wi-fi, etc.. You could own a boat, home or weekend-retreat right in the heart of the marina - with all of its many facilities, bars and restaurants - and all only a stone's throw from the centre of Brighton!

I'm putting Hal up for sale because we no longer need a boat this size to stay on. If you'd like to enquire about Hal or arrange a viewing my number is:
